Weekly Theme: Lesson 5 — Passover

☠️ One More Plague

The final blow was coming. One last plague — not just to punish, but to make a divine point: Yahweh is just, patient, and merciful — but He is also holy. Moses delivered the most devastating warning yet, knowing full well that Pharaoh’s pride would cost innocent lives.

📖 Exodus 11:4–6 (KJBPNV)

“‭And Moses said, Thus says Yahweh, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die… And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more.”

There’s something chilling about divine justice when it finally arrives. God gave Pharaoh time — even three days of literal darkness to reflect. But Pharaoh chose resistance.

God’s justice is not cruel; it’s grounded in truth and love. As Psalm 89:14 says:

📖 Psalms 89:14 (KJBPNV)

“‭Justice and judgment are the habitation of your throne: mercy and truth shall go before your face.”

In our own lives, we sometimes struggle with finding the right balance between justice and mercy. That’s why we’re called to walk in humility, as Micah reminds us:

📖 Micah 6:8 (KJBPNV)

“‭He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does Yahweh require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Justice without mercy becomes cruelty. Mercy without justice becomes compromise. In this story, God shows both — a terrifying plague, yes, but also a plan of salvation for those who listened.

💭 Questions to Reflect On:

  • Am I delaying obedience, thinking there’s still time?
  • Do I show both justice and mercy in how I treat others?
  • When I know tragedy could have been prevented, how does that affect me?

🙏 A Simple Prayer:

Yahweh, teach me to walk humbly — to care about justice without forgetting mercy. Help me respond to Your voice before it’s too late, and to lead others toward life. Amen.
