When Hearts Go Silent: What to Do When Hope Feels Lost

🗓️ Week 3 – Wednesday (July 16)

When Hearts Go Silent: What to Do When Hope Feels Lost
(Based on Exodus 6:9–13)

Moses brought God’s promises to the people.

He told them the LORD had heard their cries. He spoke of deliverance. He shared the “I will” declarations of Yahweh Himself.

But the people didn’t listen.

“And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.”Exodus 6:9, KJBPNV

💔 Too Tired to Hope

Have you ever been so discouraged, so overwhelmed, that even good news feels too painful to believe?

That was Israel. Their hearts were closed.
Their grief was louder than God’s promises.

They’d hoped before.
And every time, it hurt more.
So this time, they stopped listening.

🧠 What Did Moses Say?

In verse 12, Moses uses the phrase “uncircumcised lips.”

It’s a poetic way of saying: “I’m not qualified. I can’t speak. I’m unworthy. They don’t listen anyway.”

Sound familiar?

How often do we feel spiritually tongue-tied when disappointment drains our courage?

📖 From Moses to Asaph: When the Righteous Struggle

Moses wasn’t alone in this kind of despair.
Asaph, the psalmist, wrestled with injustice and deep questions.

But through it all, he clung to truth:

“Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. … My flesh and my heart faileth: but Elohim is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.”Psalm 73:23, 26, KJBPNV

✝️ God Still Speaks — Even When We Struggle to Listen

The Lord didn’t abandon Moses or His people.
He reaffirmed His covenant:

“And I will take you to Me for a people, and I will be to you Elohim.”Exodus 6:7, KJBPNV

This isn’t just a promise for a nation — it’s a promise for you.

💬 Reflection:

That covenant phrase — “I will take you as My people” — isn’t abstract.
It’s deeply personal.

Paul echoes it in 2 Corinthians 6:16:

“Ye are the temple of the living Elohim … I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people.”

💭 Reflection Questions:

  • Have you ever struggled to believe when God's promises felt delayed?

  • What keeps your faith alive in seasons of silence?

  • How can the truth of God’s personal covenant anchor you today?

✨ Key Takeaway:

Even when our hearts go silent, God does not.
He remembers. He speaks. He still says:

“I will be your Elohim.”
